Community Advisory Board

The Community Advisory Board (CAB) is a link between NYC Health + Hospitals/Woodhull and the community.

  • The CAB represents the views of the community in our decision making process.
  • The CAB keeps the community informed of our goals, plans, and programs.
  • Various CAB committees monitor certain functions. For example, the Patient Care Committee monitors the level and range of care delivered to patients, while the Finance Committee makes recommendations on patient care priorities.

Ivette Luperena brings a rich and diverse professional background rooted in service, compassion, and community empowerment. She spent over a decade as a Physician’s Assistant, supporting patients through vulnerable moments, followed by 15 years as a Junior Accountant, where she honed skills in organization and stewardship. Today, she serves as Associate Pastor of the Pentecostal Church of Jesus Christ, Inc., near NYC Health + Hospitals/Woodhull, continuing her lifelong commitment to uplifting others.

Ivette’s involvement with the Community Advisory Board (CAB) began through volunteer work at NYC Health + Hospitals/Woodhull events. She quickly recognized the board’s vital role in bridging the hospital with its surrounding community. She is passionate about fostering trust, amplifying marginalized voices, and promoting collaboration between hospital leadership, faith groups, law enforcement, and local residents. For 10 years, she has served through her church’s initiative, “Uniting Clergy, Community, and Police,” believing that collective action fosters trust and lasting change.

Through organizing health fairs and resource events, Ivette has helped address food insecurity, provide screenings, and connect residents to essential services. One memorable moment was helping an elderly resident access care they hadn’t known was available—a reminder of the CAB’s tangible impact.

Ivette views her role on the CAB as both an honor and a responsibility. Her faith, passion for service, and friendships with fellow board members keep her inspired to build a healthier, more unified community.
