Ms. Marlene Harford is a Simulation Nurse Educator at the NYC Health and Hospitals Institute for Medical Simulations and Learning (IMSAL). Ms. Harford graduated from the NYC Health and Hospital simulation Fellowship program in 2020. Her passion for birthing people started over 30 years ago when her nursing career began.
Ms. Harford is dedicated to a path to prevent maternal mortality and morbidity and to decrease the significant birth outcome disparities among black birthing people. During her Simulation fellowship she focused on Postpartum hemorrhage, one of the leading preventable causes of maternal mortality, nationwide. She is Certified in Diversity and inclusion and co-chairs the DEI committee at IMSAL.
Currently, Ms. Harford is working on the Maternal Mortality Reduction Project, an initiative from City Hall to address maternal mortality and the disparities in outcomes for black birthing families since 2019. She is part of a team who travel to all NYC health and Hospitals Obstetric units to provide multidisciplinary Insitu simulation and learning opportunities related to OB emergencies and Implicit bias.
