NYC Health + Hospitals/Queens Department of Ophthalmology has been serving our community consistently since 1979 with a loyal and professional staff dedicated to the care and well-being of our patients.
We provide full-service eye care for all ages beginning at birth. We screen infants born prematurely for eye problems and provide medical and surgical care for all ages. We provide general eye care including refractions, diabetic eye screening, and specialty clinics in corneal disease, pediatric ophthalmology and strabismus, retina, uveitis, neuro-ophthalmology and glaucoma supervised by specialty-trained attending ophthalmologists.
We perform many types of surgery: laser treatments for glaucoma and diabetic and other retinal disease, minor surgical procedures of the eyelids in the Eye Clinic, and cataract and glaucoma surgery, strabismus and oculoplastic surgery, as well as pterygium surgery and corneal transplants in the Operating Suite. Both facilities are equipped with the latest in state-of-the-art advancements.
When you call for an appointment please indicate whether you are having any urgent problems with your vision, and you will be screened by the nurse to determine whether you need to be seen immediately.
When you arrive for an appointment, if this is your first visit to the Eye Clinic, please bring two forms of identification including your insurance card, list of medications and prior surgical procedures or medical events; someone to accompany you if you drive; and a snack if you are diabetic. Please try to arrive 15 minutes before your appointment and anticipate that the entire visit may take two-and-one-half hours. Almost all patients are required to have their pupils dilated (this takes 30 to 40 minutes) and special tests may be necessary to diagnose your eye condition, which may take longer.
If you have special needs (are diabetic; require a language interpreter, etc.), please let us know on arrival so we may accommodate you.
The Department of Ophthalmology is located in Room P452 of the Pavilion Building. Hours of operation are Monday through Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Please telephone 718-883-3060 for appointments and information.
Emergency eye care is available at all times through our Emergency Department. Resident and attending ophthalmologists are available for emergency eye care 24 hours a day, seven days a week, 365 days a year.
