Our emphasis is on providing access to culturally responsive, person-centered SUD care when and where it is needed, encompassing a holistic approach that includes social determinants of health. We deliver comprehensive substance use care for acute or complex needs, and training and education for both SUD and non-SUD staff to support the next generation of addiction champions. Citywide Reach
At NYC Health + Hospitals, our providers deliver patient-centered, culturally sensitive treatment to children, adolescents, and adults across 11 hospitals located across the city.
NYC Health + Hospitals/Bellevue delivers compassionate care in an environment that integrates groundbreaking public psychiatry with NYU’s academic excellence. The Adult Psychiatric Service comprises nearly 200 beds across seven units, including specialty units for extended care, co-occurring medical needs, Asian-language-speaking patients, and a forensic inpatient service for men at Rikers Island. The Comprehensive Psychiatric Emergency Service treats almost 1,000 patients monthly and plays a key role in addressing homelessness in New York City. Additional services include a vibrant outpatient psychiatry clinic, addiction services, an Interim Crisis Clinic, a Mobile Crisis Team, a First Episode Psychosis Clinic, a Program for Survivors of Torture, an ACT team, the World Trade Center Mental Health Program, and an ECT service that supports other hospitals citywide. Bellevue also offers a continuum of care for children and adolescents, including inpatient and outpatient services, a child-specific Comprehensive Psychiatric Emergency Program, a partial hospital program, consultation liaison services, home-based crisis intervention, Healthy Steps, and mental health teams embedded in the juvenile justice system and ACS Pre-Placement Center. NYU Psychiatry residents and fellows from various specialties rotate through all services, with ample teaching and research opportunities for medical students and trainees.
A thriving, innovative academic center with medical students, residents and students of all disciplines, Elmhurst is a Mount Sinai affiliate and there is a faculty appointment with the Icahn School of Medicine. Attesting to the rewarding and collegial environment of working at Elmhurst Hospital, many of our multi-disciplinary team have trained and then chosen to build their careers here.
NYC Health + Hospitals/Harlem Department of Psychiatry serves the people of Central Harlem and Northern Manhattan. The department is dedicated to providing competent, sensitive, quality care with dignity and compassion, regardless of ethnicity, nationality, religion, or ability to pay, in a safe environment. It includes divisions for outpatient substance use disorders, adult and child clinics, an adult inpatient service, consultation liaison service, a Comprehensive Psychiatric Emergency Program (CPEP), and a mobile crisis unit.
Harlem has a psychiatry residency program and maintains a strong academic affiliation with Columbia University Vagelos College of Physicians and Surgeons to continue its high standards of healthcare delivery, and to provide its staff with teaching and research opportunities.
NYC Health + Hospitals/Jacobi Department of Psychiatry has 89- bedded Adult Acute Inpatient Service, a Comprehensive Psychiatric Emergency Program (CPEP), a Consultation-Liaison service, an Adult Ambulatory Practice, a Chemical Addiction Treatment Center, a Community-Based Assertive Community Treatment Program. The department employs evidence-based best practices to provide high-quality, patient-centered care that respects each patient’s individuality, culture, and community. Academic affiliation at both Albert Einstein College of Medicine and City University of New York School of Medicine is available.
NYC Health + Hospitals/Kings County Behavioral Health Center offers a comprehensive suite of services for mental health including First Episode Psychosis program, medical services, opioid treatment, substance use disorders services, a specialized unit for people with intellectually disability, an inpatient extended care unit focusing on the needs of our homeless patients and prevent recidivism, ketamine assisted therapy, and inpatient and outpatient services for adults and children. Our skilled team of adult and child/adolescent psychiatrists, psychologists, internists, nurses, social workers, creative arts therapists, and peer and addiction counselors delivers compassionate care in a secure environment, respecting each patient’s dignity and partnering with them on their recovery journey. We also provide educational resources for patients and caregivers to enhance their understanding of mental health and addiction issues and available treatments.
Kings County maintains a strong academic affiliation with SUNY Downstate Medical Center to continue its high standards of healthcare delivery, and to provide its staff with teaching and research opportunities and the chance to work with medical students, residents and fellows very closely.
NYC Health + Hospitals/Lincoln Department of Psychiatry provides care and services to one of the most diverse populations in New York City. The department has 60 acute inpatient beds, a busy psychiatry emergency department, a mobile crisis team, a consultation-liaison service and a large ambulatory platform serving adults and children. The department provides on-site school-based services to multiple Bronx sites. Lincoln offers a variety of state-of-the-art substance use treatment services across all care settings including consultation, medication assisted therapies and ongoing treatment modalities through the Lincoln Recovery Center.
Lincoln has a psychiatry residency program and maintains a strong academic affiliation with Weill Medical College of Cornell University to continue its high standards of healthcare delivery, and to provide its staff with teaching and research opportunities.
NYC Health + Hospitals/North Central Bronx Department of Psychiatry has three adult inpatient units, a satellite Comprehensive Psychiatric Emergency Program (CPEP), a psychiatry consultation liaison service, a partial hospital program, an outpatient department, and an Assertive Community Treatment (ACT) team.
North Central Bronx maintains a strong academic affiliation with the James J. Peters VA Medical Center to continue its high standards of healthcare delivery, and to provide its staff with teaching and research opportunities.
NYC Health + Hospitals/North Central Bronx Department of Psychiatry has 3 adult inpatient units, a satellite Comprehensive Psychiatric Emergency Program (CPEP), a psychiatry consultation liaison service, a partial hospital program, an outpatient department, and an Assertive Community Treatment (ACT) team.

NYC Health + Hospitals/Queens Hospital Center offers a comprehensive array of behavioral health services across the inpatient, emergency and outpatient settings: two adult inpatient units, a Comprehensive Psychiatric Emergency Program, pediatric psychiatric consultations to the emergency room, extensive Mobile Crisis Services, and two Assertive Community Treatment teams. Further, the department partners with the Medicine department in a state-of-the-art med/psych unit and provides an integrated med/psych primary care clinic, and substance use disorders services.
Queens Hospital’s outpatient treatment options including a Partial Hospitalization Program, Adult, Child and Adolescent Services, and school-based psychiatric services in various schools throughout the community. Our skilled team of adult and child/adolescent psychiatrists, psychiatric physician assistants, psychiatric nurse practitioners, social workers, psychologists, internists, nurses, creative arts therapists, and peer and addiction counselors deliver compassionate care in a secure environment, respecting each client’s dignity and partnering with them on their recovery journey. We proudly serve our community which represents many different cultures, religious beliefs and languages, and provide educational resources for patients and caregivers to enhance their understanding of mental health and addiction issues and available treatments.
In addition, Queens Hospital operates a Psychiatry Residency Training Program through an academic affiliation with Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai.
NYC Health + Hospitals/South Brooklyn Health Department of Behavioral Health is comprised of a vibrant and dynamic multidisciplinary staff. Inpatient psychiatry services are provided on three units, totaling 60 beds, located in the state-of-the-art Ruth Bader Ginsburg (RBG) Hospital Building. These units feature evidence-based design and curated artwork from the NYC Health + Hospitals Arts in Medicine public collection. The psychiatric emergency service, also in RBG, is designed for maximum safety and comfort. Outpatient services for adults and children, as well as two Assertive Community Treatment (ACT) teams, occupy newly remodeled, therapeutic, and patient-friendly spaces. Off-campus in Coney Island, we offer medically supervised outpatient addiction treatment, including individual and group therapy, rehabilitative services, and outpatient ancillary withdrawal services as an alternative to inpatient detox when indicated.
South Brooklyn Health maintains a strong academic affiliation with SUNY Downstate Medical Center and New York College of Osteopathic Medicine in order to maintain its high standards of healthcare delivery.
NYC Health + Hospitals/Woodhull’s Department of Behavioral Health offers comprehensive mental health and substance use treatment services, providing a full continuum of care through inpatient and outpatient programs. The department features a multidisciplinary team of psychiatrists, psychologists, therapists, nurses, and social workers dedicated to individualized, patient-centered care. Services include 4 inpatient psychiatric units, a comprehensive psychiatric emergency program (CPEP), a mobile crisis team, adult and child outpatient programs, chemical dependency treatment, assertive community treatment, and an integrated health clinic that addresses both physical and mental health needs. Our programs focus on stabilization, recovery, and ongoing support for mental health and substance use disorders.
Services are also co-located in schools, domestic violence shelters, family court and other community-based settings, reducing barriers to access and helping New Yorkers to access services when and where they need them.

Recognizing that many behavioral health professionals are burdened by student loan debt, NYC Health + Hospitals established the Behavioral Health Loan Repayment Program (BH4NYC) to support our behavioral health professionals. BH4NYC will provide grants to those providers who meet the eligibility criteria.
- NYC Health + Hospitals/NYU Public Psychiatry Leadership Program is a program to support early-career psychiatrists working in public mental health settings while preparing them on a career pathway toward leadership in the field.
