Mitchell Katz, MD, President and CEO of NYC Health + Hospitals today announced the appointment of Svetlana Lipyanskaya as CEO of NYC Health + Hospitals/Coney Island. In this role, Ms. Lipyanskaya will lead the hospital in delivering high quality care to patients in South Brooklyn. She will continue to grow innovative programs and re-engineer processes to increase access to affordable and comprehensive health care for all patients. Ms. Lipyanskaya will guide the next phase of NYC Health + Hospitals/Coney Island’s renovations as part of its Hurricane Sandy recovery project, and will oversee the completion of its new Critical Services Structure (CSS) hospital building.
In addition to her professional accomplishments, Ms. Lipyanskaya brings with her a deep personal connection to the South Brooklyn community. She moved to Bensonhurst from Odessa, Ukraine in 1989 when she was nine years old, and called the neighborhood home until 2001 when she moved to Gravesend. She speaks fluent Russian, a prominent language of patients serviced by the hospital. Her appointment is effective Thursday, January 2, 2020.

Ms. Lipyanskaya has over a decade of health care management experience in successive leadership roles. She joined NYC Health + Hospitals in 2017, working in various capacities within the acute care operations, patient growth, and transformation spaces. She led the redesign of the system-wide inter-facility transfer and patient transport delivery system focused on reducing turnaround time and growing patient volume to increase revenue by over $25 million annually. She has also driven efforts at multiple hospital facilities to design and implement specialty services program expansions focusing on operating room and surgical programming, ambulatory surgery and outpatient access. At Coney Island Hospital, Ms. Lipyanskaya worked closely with the leadership team to design the plan for the percutaneous cardiac intervention (PCI) program.
Prior to joining the City’s public health system, Ms. Lipyanskaya worked at Weill Cornell Medicine, where she held a number of leadership roles. During her time at Weill Cornell Physician Network, she built and oversaw day-to-day operations of a multi-site and multi-specialty physician group spanning 19 practice locations. She also led numerous practice operations initiatives focused on improving patient satisfaction and access to care as well as creating billing efficiencies and streamlining the EMR documentation processes.
Ms. Lipyanskaya received a MPA with a concentration in health management and finance and a BA in Economics from New York University.
