Senior Leadership at NYC Health + Hospitals and MetroPlusHealth Named to City & State New York ‘The 2023 Power of Diversity: Asian 100’ List

NYC Health + Hospitals today announced that its Senior Vice President and Chief Quality Officer Dr. Eric Wei and MetroPlusHealth Chief Operating Officer Lila Benayoun were named on City & State New York’s ‘The 2023 Power of Diversity: Asian 100’ list for their service to New Yorkers and for ensuring that Asian Americans have a voice at the table. Ranked 80th on the list, Dr. Wei is recognized for his work overseeing the health system’s new virtual behavioral health platform serving homeless New Yorkers. Ms. Benayoun, who follows Dr. Wei at number 81, is honored for making sure that the MetroPlus health plan, a subsidiary of NYC Health + Hospitals, runs smoothly. City & State is a news organization dedicated to covering New York and Pennsylvania’s local and state politics and policy.

Dr. Wei leads the health system’s Office of Quality and Safety, focused on fostering a culture of safety, building quality improvement capacity across all 43,000+ staff, and becoming a data-driven organization. He is also an associate clinical professor of Emergency Medicine at the NYU Grossman School of Medicine and adjunct professor at the NYU School of Global Public Health. Dr. Wei founded the Helping Healers Heal program to support healthcare workers through emotional and psychological trauma. He is the fellowship director for the NYC Health + Hospitals Clinical Leadership Fellowship. He is a practicing Emergency Medicine physician rotating through all 11 Emergency Departments at NYC Health + Hospitals.
Dr. Wei received his Bachelor’s degree in Molecular, Cell and Developmental Biology at University of California, Los Angeles, completed the combined MD and MBA program at University of California, Irvine, and completed his Emergency Medicine residency and the Healthcare Administration Scholars Program at the University of Michigan. He is a fellow of the American College of Emergency Physicians. Dr. Wei was named in the Becker’s Hospital Review Top 50 Experts Leading the Field of Patient Safety, Modern Healthcare’s 50 Most Influential Clinical Executives, and Crain’s Business New York 40 Under 40.
Ms. Benayoun was appointed Chief Operating Officer of MetroPlusHealth in September 2022, where she leads transformation initiatives designed to foster growth, innovation, and operational excellence. As Chief Operating Officer, Ms. Benayoun is also responsible for plan operations, member retention, provider relations, project management office, organizational process improvement, and the launch of OneX, MetroPlusHealth’s new Management Service Organization.
Ms. Benayoun joined MetroPlusHealth in 2021 as the Deputy Chief Operating Officer. She joins MetroPlusHealth from Partners Health Plan, where she served as Chief of Operations. Lila holds more than 20 years of industry leadership experience in leading new managed care markets, new product launches, advancing operational excellence, and outstanding service experiences.
Lila holds a B.S. in Health Information Management from Temple University and has completed post-graduate studies at Columbia University, focusing on Strategic Growth.
