Nov 20, 2025

NYC Health + Hospitals/Woodhull proudly hosted its Second Annual Healthcare Career Day, welcoming high school seniors from across New York City for a day of learning, inspiration, and discovery. The event, coordinated by Woodhull’s Volunteer Services Department, provided students with a unique opportunity to explore both clinical and non-clinical career pathways in healthcare, including nursing, administration, surgery, behavioral health, facilities, and trades. Over 120 high school seniors met with professionals across hospital departments, participated in hands-on demonstrations, and gained valuable insights into the education and skills required to build rewarding healthcare careers. The day was designed to help young people envision a future in the healthcare industry — one grounded in compassion, community, and purpose.

“We were proud to host our Second Annual Career Day at NYC Health + Hospitals/Woodhull — a meaningful event that continues our commitment to inspiring and guiding the next generation of healthcare professionals,” said Sandra Sneed, Chief Executive Officer, NYC Health + Hospitals/Woodhull. “It was a privilege to welcome so many bright and motivated students from our community, each eager to learn, explore, and connect with our dedicated staff. Together, we are shaping the future of healthcare with compassion, purpose, and possibility.”

“It is such a privilege to support Woodhull’s continuing commitment to our local community,” said Dr. Lisa Scott-McKenzie, Chief Operating Officer, NYC Health + Hospitals/Woodhull. “These high school attendees represent the future of healthcare as well as the unlimited potential for growth in both their personal and professional lives. Kudos to the school and community leaders as well as the Woodhull staff who collaborated so well to provide this program. We will continue to do our part to provide a learning forum and serve as a resource to assist in shaping the next generation of healthcare professionals.”

The program began with opening remarks and greetings from hospital leadership, followed by a keynote address by Chief Nursing Officer Althea Senior-Morris. Students enjoyed an engaging and interactive agenda featuring sessions such as “Let’s Talk About Career Mapping,” “Entry-Level Job Opportunities in Healthcare,” “Woodhull Wears Fashion,” “Let’s Talk About Interviewing,” and the popular “Wrong Way/Right Way” skit, which demonstrated effective interview techniques in an entertaining and educational format.

“Career Day allows Woodhull to give back by showing young people pathways to meaningful, lifelong employment in healthcare,” said Dr. Ross MacDonald, Chief Medical Officer, NYC Health + Hospitals/Woodhull. “We hope to share the inspiration we feel in our work as part of a helping profession, and we lay the groundwork for the compassionate, skilled workforce that healthcare needs for the future.”

The morning also included videos highlighting Woodhull staff, icebreakers, and live polling activities. The day concluded with Interview Workshops led by Andy Rocher, NYC Health + Hospitals/Woodhull Director of Recruitment, offering students hands-on experience in mock interviews and resume preparation.
