NYC Health + Hospitals Wins Nine Awards for Its Commitment to High-Quality Palliative Care

NYC Health + Hospitals today announced it received nine awards from the Center to Advance Palliative Care for the health system’s commitment to high-quality palliative care. As part of its 2023 Tipping Point Challenge national challenge for clinical training, the Center to Advance Palliative Care recognized NYC Health + Hospitals/Coler as one of 15 winners and NYC Health + Hospitals/McKinney as one of 47 honor roll recipients in a pool of over 1,700 health care organizations nationwide. In addition, the Center’s New York City challenge recognized McKinney as one of 5 winners and four additional NYC Health + Hospitals sites in its citywide honor roll. Lastly, the Center also recognized two individuals at NYC Health + Hospitals for their commitment to expanding their skills: Yetunde Egbeyale, RN at NYC Health + Hospitals/Coler and Valentina Forcella, RN at NYC Health + Hospitals/South Brooklyn Health. The clinical training challenge encourages clinicians across medical specialties to enhance their skills to care for seriously ill patients, including communication, pain management, opioid prescribing, symptom management, and dementia care.
“Our palliative care teams work every day to relieve the symptoms and stress of serious illness, such as pain, nausea, and depression,” said NYC Health + Hospitals Senior Vice President and Chief Medical Officer Machelle Allen, MD. “Thank you to the Tipping Point Challenge for recognizing our care teams’ commitment to learn and grow as they improve the quality of life of our patients.”
