NYC Care is a health care access program available to New Yorkers regardless of one’s immigration status or ability to pay

NYC Health + Hospitals’ NYC Care program today announced the launch of an informational virtual webinar series, “Health Insurance for DACA Recipients & Other Immigrants” in English and Spanish, in partnership with New York State of Health. New York State of Health’s NYC Director of Outreach and Community Affairs Stana Nakhle and Communications and Outreach Specialist Juan Maranon led the presentations which were held on Thursday, December 5th from 10AM-11AM and from 1PM-2PM, respectively. NYC Care’s Community Affairs team leveraged its community-based organization partners to ensure the event reached its intended turnout, while also partnering with other agencies including the Mayor’s Office of Immigrant Affairs and the Mayor’s Public Engagement Unit to increase its reach. The webinar continues the agency’s commitment to connecting underserved communities to health care.

“Health care access is at the forefront of our mission at NYC Health + Hospitals,” said Jonathan Jiménez, MD, MPH, Executive Director of NYC Care from NYC Health + Hospitals. “Through partnerships with New York State of Health, we can connect more New Yorkers to the primary, specialty, and preventive care needed to lead longer, healthier lives. New Yorkers interested in learning more about NYC Care can visit NYCCare.NYC or call 646-692-2273.”

“We want to thank our partners at NYC Health + Hospitals for their support in raising awareness across all communities about the critical importance of accessing health care,” said Danielle Holahan, Executive Director of the NY State of Health Marketplace. “Our work is rooted in fostering better health outcomes and reducing systemic health disparities, and we will continue to identify and pursue coverage expansion initiatives that provide more New Yorkers with access to the care they need.”

“As a welcoming city committed to serving all in need, we must continue to fight for equitable access to care for everyone, regardless of immigration status, health insurance, language, and other barriers,” said Nathaly Rubio-Torio, Director of Voces Latinas. “Our partnerships are crucial, and it is more important than ever to work together for our community. NYC continues to lead the way in these advancements. I am proud to say that Voces Latinas is a partner in this vital work. However, we must not forget that the past few years have challenged our ability to reach, serve, and connect with some of the city’s most vulnerable populations, including recent migrants living with HIV.”

NYC Care has grown to over 145,000 active members and has provided over one million primary care appointments for its members. Since launching in 2019, it has provided hundreds of thousands of specialty care appointments, including 365,226 women’s health appointments, 284,766 eye care appointments, and 187,425 behavioral health appointments. NYC Care’s community-based organization partners have reached over 1 million New Yorkers, scheduled over 43,000 enrollment appointments, and facilitated over 17,000 direct enrollments. In June, the program announced that over 500,000 calls have been received by the NYC Care 24/7/365 hotline. From working with the Department of Health & Mental Hygiene to launch the Groceries to Go program providing discounted groceries for members, to developing multi-lingual video series about the program and deploying public awareness campaigns, NYC Care continues to champion the health needs of the city’s most vulnerable.
