NYC Health + Hospitals/Jacobi | North Central Bronx CEO Christopher Mastromano announced today that Jacobi has been awarded several Beacon Awards for Excellence for its Cardiac Catherization Lab (Gold Level), Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (Silver Level), and Cardiac Critical Care Unit (Silver Level). The Beacon Awards are given by American Association of Critical‐Care Nurses (AACN).
The AACN is the largest specialty nursing organization in the world, representing the interests of more than half a million acute and critical care nurses and includes more than 200 chapters in the United States. The Beacon Award for Excellence is a significant milestone that recognizes unit caregivers who successfully improve patient outcomes and align practices with AACN’s six Healthy Work Environment Standards. Units that achieve this three‐year, three‐ level award with a gold, silver or bronze designation meet national criteria consistent with the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC) Magnet Recognition Program®, the Malcolm Baldrige National Quality Award and the National Quality Healthcare Award.
“As I’ve said many times, Jacobi and North Central Bronx wouldn’t be able to operate without the perseverance and dedication of our nurses,” said Mr. Mastromano. “This award is further proof that our nurses provide world-class care to our patients.”
“We are extremely proud of our Cardiac Cath Lab nurses who have achieved the gold level Beacon Award for Excellence as well as our Neonatal Intensive Care Unit and Coronary Critical Care Unit nurses who achieved the silver level Beacon Award for Excellence. Our nurses strive for excellence every day and these awards validate what we have always known: The nurses at Jacobi care for their patients with compassion and a focus on quality patient care,” said NYC Health + Hospitals/Jacobi Chief Nursing Officer Suzanne Pennacchio.
“I am very pleased and proud to congratulate our nurses at NYC Health + Hospitals/Jacobi, who have earned a trifecta of honors from the American Association Of Critical-Care Nurses: one gold-level and two silver-level Beacon Award for Excellence designations,” said NYC Health + Hospitals Senior Vice President, Chief Nursing Executive Natalia Cineas, DNP, RN, NEA-BC, FAAN. “This is the first time in our system’s history that three units have received Beacon designations in the same week. These impressive achievements demonstrate the commitment and dedication of our Jacobi nurses in caring for patients and their families in the South Bronx community.”
“The prestigious gold-level Beacon Award recognizes Jacobi’s Cardiac Catheter Laboratory as one of only seven Cath Labs in the nation, the fourth in New York state, and the first and only unit in the Bronx to receive this respected recognition. Nurses in Jacobi’s Cardiac Catheter Lab are definitely setting a standard for nursing excellence,” Dr. Cineas continued. “It also gives me great pleasure to congratulate the Critical Care Unit (CCU) and the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) at NYC Health + Hospitals/Jacobi both for attaining the AACN’s silver-level Beacon Award For Excellence. These awards are clear sign that these units maintain a positive and supportive work environment with a high degree of collaboration between colleagues and leaders, nurturing empowerment and leadership among the nursing staff, and working together to successfully improve patient outcomes.”
