Brooklyn, NY — NYC Health + Hospitals/Gotham Health announced the opening of new wellness room for staff at East New York. It is the second of four new wellness rooms to be established at various Gotham Health sites, and part of the health system’s investment in workforce wellness under its Helping Healers Heal program. This serene space, co-designed with WXY Studio, aims to provide a quiet retreat for employees to recharge, de-stress, and heal. The room features visually enhanced environments with beautiful art, calm music, and soothing lighting. Staff can enjoy relaxation and rejuvenation. Additionally, the room offers a space for connection and debriefing, allowing staff to support each other and share experiences in a tranquil setting. Following the recent opening at Gotham Health, Cumberland in Brooklyn, additional wellness rooms will include Gotham Health, Belvis and Gotham Health, Morrisania.

The four wellness rooms at Gotham Health are part of a systemwide initiative bringing 20 wellness rooms to staff at NYC Health + Hospitals. The Jeffrey H. and Shari L. Aronson Family Foundation gave a leadership contribution to support the creation of the 20 wellness rooms. Several other donors also contributed to the project, including the Ira W. DeCamp Foundation and The George Link, Jr. Foundation.

“I am delighted to announce the opening of our new wellness room at Gotham Health, East New York,”said Michelle Lewis, CEO of NYC Health + Hospitals/Gotham Health. “This project has been a significant focus for us, driven by our commitment to creating a supportive and nurturing environment for our staff. I am so proud to provide a space where our staff can relax, rejuvenate, and focus on their wellness, and look forward to seeing the many benefits this will bring Gotham Health as a whole.”

“Wellness rooms continue to be a cornerstone of NYC Health + Hospitals’ Helping Healers Heal wellness programming. They provide a sanctuary for staff to destress while at work and for staff to take a moment to care for themselves. Wellness rooms are a permanent fixture demonstrating NYC Health + Hospitals’ investment and commitment to workforce wellness. These spaces ensure that our employees focus on their own needs in order to meet the needs of the patient populations they serve,” said Jeremy Segall, MA, RDT, LCAT, FPCC, NYC Health + Hospitals Assistant Vice President and System Chief Wellness Officer

“I am honored to introduce our new wellness room at Gotham Health, East New York. This space has been thoughtfully designed to provide a serene environment where employees can take a break from their demanding roles and focus on self-care,”said NYC Health + Hospitals/Gotham Health Chief of Infrastructure and Support Services Officer, Roman Ryniewski. “By investing in this wellness room, we aim to create a workplace that not only supports our healthcare professional growth, but also prioritizes their physical and mental health.”

“We see the wellness rooms as spaces of social connection, with colorful nature graphics that aim to nurture and support our essential healthcare workforce,” said Julie Torres Moskovitz, Director of Sustainability for WXY, the architecture firm that designed the new wellness rooms. “This project came into fruition with a beautiful collaboration from so many different voices. The results are remaking these neutral spaces into art- and nature-filled zones to recharge and relax, and we are excited to see the project evolve with a life of its own now that the doors are open.”
