NYC Health + Hospitals Appoints Two New Chief Medical Officers

NYC Health + Hospitals today announced the appointment of two new Chief Medical Officers: Dr. Laura Iavicoli is the new Chief Medical Officer for NYC Health + Hospitals/Elmhurst, and Dr. Dave A. Holson is the new Chief Medical Officer at NYC Health and Hospitals/Queens. The new Chief Medical Officers will oversee quality improvement, risk management, patient safety, and medical department service line operations for their hospitals. Their appointments are effective as of December 1. They replace Dr. Jasmin Moshirpur, who held various positions in the health system for more than 50 years.
Dr. Iavicoli has worked at Elmhurst Hospital since 2001, first as an attending physician, and later as a clinical leader in the Emergency Department, and most recently as the hospital’s Deputy Chief Medical Officer. In addition, Dr. Iavicoli previously served as NYC Health + Hospitals’ systemwide Assistant Vice President for Emergency Management, where she played a pivotal role in guiding New York’s public healthcare system through the COVID-19 pandemic. She skillfully used her background in disaster management to develop new and innovative procedures and treatment protocols in the city’s public hospitals. Dr Iavicoli is also a Professor at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai and has been responsible for training and teaching emergency medicine residents, internal medicine residents, and medical students in Emergency Medicine. She is also widely known for her compassion and dedication to patients and for working diligently to improve the way care is delivered in clinical settings.
Dr. Holson is a fellow of the American Academy of Emergency Medicine, and his professional experience includes serving as an Assistant Professor of Emergency Medicine at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai. His experience includes significant contributions to clinical operations and change management, focusing on enhancing efficiency and resource utilization in healthcare delivery. His collaborative work with organizations such as the Institute for Healthcare Improvement, NYC Health Department, and the Center for Disease Control underscores his commitment to improving healthcare systems. He completed his medical degree at the University of the West Indies at Mona, an internship in Internal Medicine at St. Luke’s Roosevelt Hospital and an integrated residency in Emergency Medicine at the Mount Sinai School of Medicine program at Beth Israel Medical Center and Elmhurst Hospital Center. He received a master’s degree in Health Services Management from Columbia University.
