New York, NY — NYC Health + Hospitals’ NYC Care program today announced the launch of a health care outreach pop-up, in partnership with NYC Care community partner Met Council, Multi-Ethnic Alliance of New York (MANY) and the Consulate General of Mexico in New York. The pop-up event in Sunset Park, Brooklyn is part of a long-standing collaboration between Met Council’s Benefits Access team and the mobile office (“Consulado Sobre Ruedas”) of the Consulate General of Mexico in New York at the host organization, MANY. The partnership allows New Yorkers seeking consular services in neighborhoods across the city to be connected to a ‘one-stop shop’ of other services provided by Met Council, including SNAP enrollment (formerly known as food stamps), health insurance enrollment (e.g., Medicaid), Crisis Intervention (e.g., eviction prevention), and Family Violence, in addition to NYC Care. Met Council staff conduct hourly presentations covering general information about NYC Care, while disseminating outreach materials and providing in-language assistance to those who are interested in initiating the enrollment process. The consulate will provide additional details about next month’s collaboration with NYC Care on its site.
“NYC Care’s commitment to engaging New Yorkers about the importance of primary care means meeting them where they are and finding new and innovative ways to reach them. Through this partnership, immigrant New Yorkers seeking consular services will now find a wide range of resources available to them, regardless of immigration status or ability to pay,” said Jonathan Jiménez, MD, MPH, Executive Director of NYC Care from NYC Health + Hospitals. “I want to thank NYC Care partner Met Council, Multi-Ethnic Alliance of New York and the Consulate General of Mexico in New York for their support as we continue to remove barriers to access to care.”
“The Consulate General is a firm believer of NYC Care as a vital program for every resident of the City of New York,” said Jorge Paz, Community Affairs Consul, Consulate General of Mexico in New York. “Through our collaboration with NYC Health + Hospitals, we promote access to health care at the Consulate and in various community hubs across all 5 boroughs.”
“Met Council is proud to partner with NYC Health + Hospitals, the Multi-Ethnic Alliance of New York, and the Consulate General of Mexico in New York on this important initiative. At the heart of our mission is a commitment to improving the lives of vulnerable communities, and this collaboration with NYC Care allows us to do just that by ensuring individuals have the information and resources they need to access vital health care services. We are excited to join forces in this series of presentations to not only inform but empower our community members to take charge of their health through accessible and quality primary care,” said David G. Greenfield, Met Council CEO.
“The Multi-Ethnic Alliance of New York is a non-for-profit organization that offers different programs to the community in general. We are a community plaza, host to the mobile office of the Mexican Consulate (Consulado Sobre Ruedas). We offer educational, artistic, and cultural programs. We are located at 5606 5th Ave., Brooklyn, NY 11220. Information is available by calling 646-546-8611,” said Felipe Salinas, Founder and President of the Multi-Ethnic Alliance of New York.
NYC Care has grown to over 145,000 active members and has provided over one million primary care appointments for its members. Since launching in 2019, it has provided hundreds of thousands of specialty care appointments, including 365,226 women’s health appointments, 284,766 eye care appointments, and 187,425 behavioral health appointments. NYC Care’s community-based organization partners have reached over 1 million New Yorkers, scheduled over 43,000 enrollment appointments, and facilitated over 17,000 direct enrollments. In June, the program announced that over 500,000 calls have been received by the NYC Care 24/7/365 hotline. From working with the Department of Health & Mental Hygiene to launch the Groceries to Go program providing discounted groceries for members, to developing multi-lingual video series about the program and deploying public awareness campaigns, NYC Care continues to champion the health needs of the city’s most vulnerable.
