Belvis Nurse Practitioner Wins Top Public Service Award
Fund for the City of New York Acknowledges Exemplary Government Service

An outstanding nurse practitioner from the NYC Health and Hospitals Corporation’s Women’s Health Services at Segundo Ruiz Belvis Neighborhood Family Health Center was honored today by the Fund for the City of New York. Elva Rodriguez, whose compassion, unwavering dedication and innovative thinking has made a difference in the lives of the patients for whom she cares at Belvis Women’s Health Clinic, is the recipient of this year’s Sloan Public Service Award. Ms. Rodriguez, an OB/GYN certified nurse practitioner for more than 23 years, provides direct patient care and has played a key role in improving systems and implementing standards that have raised the bar for health care delivery at the Belvis Center.
“The Sloan Awards has a rich history that I am proud to be a part of each year,” said Mayor Michael R. Bloomberg. “The Fund for the City of New York and the Sloan Foundation have once again selected a team of remarkable public servants from within the ranks of the City’s workforce. Together they have devoted more than 150 years to improving the quality of life for all New Yorkers. As a public servant myself, I offer them my thanks and congratulations.”
During the award presentation ceremony today, Mary McCormick, President of the Fund for the City of New York said, “The Sloan Public Service Award winners are representative of the thousands of truly remarkable men and women who make up the backbone of our City. In honoring extraordinary New Yorkers who demonstrate an unparalleled selflessness and commitment to improving the world around them, we recognize the critical contributions of all career public servants.”
Presented annually by the Fund for the City of New York, the Sloan awards—considered by many as the “Nobel Prizes” of City government—recognize outstanding civil servants whose professionalism, commitment and accomplishments are truly extraordinary. Ms. Rodriguez is one of six winners selected from among more than 250,000 eligible workers who come from all levels and ranks of New York City’s government.

Jimenez Hernandez, Senior Vice President for Generations+/Northern Manhattan Health Network noted, “Ms. Rodriguez’s commitment transcends patient care as she continually strives to improve the Center’s standards and processes to enhance the delivery of quality health services. I extend heartfelt congratulations to Elva and thank the Fund for the City of New York for bestowing this significant recognition to someone who brings to life our mission to provide patient centered quality health care with dignity and compassion.”

The fund for the City of New York was established by the Ford Foundation in 1968 with the mandate to improve the quality of life for all New Yorkers. For over three decades, in partnership with
