NYC Health + Hospitals today announced that Ana Rodriguez, a nurse at NYC Health + Hospitals/Bellevue, was voted “2022 Amazing Employee of the Year,” representing the public health system’s 43,000-strong workforce. Rodriguez was recognized for her 15-year commitment and dedication to the health system as an ICU nurse and for her heroic actions saving a child on the Franklin D. Roosevelt East River Drive. At the hospital she is the Director of Nursing for Nursing Recruitment, Phlebotomy, and Patient Transport. In addition to these duties, once a week she is also a medical and surgical nursing clinical instructor teaching nursing students how to care for patients. This keeps her connected to bedside care, and it gives her the opportunity to serve as a role model for future nurses. Rodriguez started her career with the health system in 2008 at NYC Health + Hospitals/Woodhull. She was born in Barceloneta, Puerto Rico, and moved to NYC when she was 3.
“I’m so thankful to all those who voted for me. As a young woman, I knew I wanted to help people, which is why I became a nurse and work at NYC Health + Hospitals,” said Rodriguez. “It is especially important for me to work for an organization whose vision and mission align with how I feel. There is a great sense of pride in being a part of a team where all patients are treated equally regardless of their socioeconomic or immigration status.”
“Ana embodies the NYC Health + Hospitals’ nurses’ spirit,” said NYC Health + Hospitals President and CEO Mitchell Katz, MD. “She not only takes care of New Yorkers on the side of the road and patients in our hospitals, she passes along her lifetime of knowledge to teach future nurses. These qualities make Ana Rodriguez truly amazing.”
“We are so incredibly proud of Ana Rodriguez being voted 2022 Amazing Employee of the Year,” said NYC Health + Hospitals/Bellevue Chief Executive Officer William Hicks. “Ana is a perfect example of someone who takes great pride in her work and goes above and beyond to care for others. She is a problem-solver who is ready to spring into action when needed. We think all of our employees at Bellevue are exceptional, and Ana is truly amazing.”
