The nursing profession has been a life-changing journey for Neena Babu, and one that has taken her all over the world in the course of her 24-year career.
Babu started her career in India and then worked at a National Guard Hospital in Saudi Arabia; she subsequently worked as a nurse in Canada before settling in the U.S. “I am always willing to adapt to changing circumstances and am eager to learn new skills and techniques,” she explains. “The most critical personality traits that I bring to nursing include compassion, attention to detail, strong communication skills, empathy, patience, critical thinking and flexibility. These qualities together ensure that I provide the best care possible to those under my supervision.”
Currently working as a Staff Nurse at NYC Health + Hospitals/Queens, Babu was inspired to become a nurse by seeing her grandmother’s dedication to caring for her grandfather. “I felt that becoming a nurse was crucial because I wanted to make a positive impact on people’s lives and contribute to the healthcare field,” she relates. “Making a positive difference in the lives of those in need is truly rewarding.”

“In my daily nursing activities, I prioritize compassion by attentively listening to my patients, empathizing with their concerns, and providing emotional support. I also aim to foster a warm and inviting environment that facilitates healing and allows patients to communicate openly,” she says.
“I firmly believe in treating each patient as an individual and invest time in understanding their unique needs and problems,” she continues. “To ensure that my patients and their families feel heard, respected, and well cared for, I strive to create a nurturing and soothing environment for them. Throughout their healthcare journey, I want my patients and their families to feel empowered and confident, knowing they are receiving the best treatment available.”
Babu also values new knowledge and education, staying current with the latest research and best practices in nursing; she is in the process of earning her master’s degree.
“I envision the nursing profession becoming increasingly technology-driven and patient-centered in the future,” she asserts. “With the advancement of technology, nurses will be expected to possess a profound understanding of electronic health records, telehealth, and other digital tools to enhance patient care.
“Additionally, the emphasis on patient-centered care will intensify as healthcare evolves towards greater personalization,” she continues. “To adapt, I intend to stay current with emerging technologies while maintaining a strong focus on patient-centered care.”
