Excellence in Clinical Nursing
Bartek Tarnacki was encouraged to become a nurse while working as a secretarial associate.
“As a secretary, I learned to work with many people and would go out of my way to make sure everyone was happy, safe and accounted for,” Tarnacki recalls. “Family members, coworkers and patients all recommended I become a nurse due to my work ethic and values. Because of this, I felt that becoming a nurse was my calling – I wanted to bring my previous hard work, compassion and skills directly to my patients, to help provide a more positive, memorable and human approach to the care of others.”
A nurse for one year, Tarnacki currently works as a staff nurse at NYC Health + Hospitals/Bellevue and is praised for his patient-centered care, teamwork, communications skills, positive outlook and “great customer service.”
“Every new day at work provides another memorable and interesting moment to reminisce about, never ceasing to amaze me.”Bartek M. Tarnacki, Staff Nurse
“The best way to describe my approach to patient care would be kind, honest and human,” Tarnacki relates. “The message I hope my patients and their families take away from our mutual experience would be that no one is perfect, we are all human at the end of the day, and what brings us all together are acts of kindness and compassion. We are all in this together and all are welcome when in need of help.”
Tarnacki prides himself on his optimism, kindness, humor, patient and compassion. “I do my best to bring these traits with me into my nursing career and work as it allows me to provide my patients and coworkers with the proper care, support and respect they deserve,” he says. “Building a human connection, in my opinion, is the first step of building a solid foundation of trust between coworkers and or patients. Mental health is important to all, and being able to be human and treating others with respect, dignity and equality will bring about great change for all.”
A firm believer in nursing excellence and achieving positive outcomes, Tarnacki says he relates strongly to “Integrity,” which he feels most closely aligns with his personal philosophy and approach to nursing. “This value appeals to me because at the end of the day, we want to provide the safest and best patient care for all,” he explains. “By being kind, honest and upholding ethical decisions, we provide the best standards for our patients to remain safe, happy and healthy.
“I enjoy my work greatly, thus being able to bring out my full potential at work,” Tarnacki adds. “I do my best to tend to not only my patients, but also my coworkers with proper respect, care and positivity. I strive to be honest and authentic with my patients and coworkers, including being kind, considerate and open minded to new ideas and viewpoints. Acts of kindness, care, support and humility can go a long way.”
