The Emergency Department at NYC Health + Hospitals/Metropolitan provides round-the-clock care for adults, children, and individuals experiencing psychiatric emergencies. The department is staffed by emergency medicine physicians, nurses, and specialists trained to respond quickly to serious and life-threatening conditions.

Adult Emergency Services
- Evaluation and treatment of acute illness and injury
- Chest pain and cardiac emergencies
- Stroke evaluation and rapid intervention
- Respiratory distress and asthma exacerbations
- Abdominal pain and gastrointestinal emergencies
- Trauma care
- Infections and high fever
- Pain management and stabilization
Pediatric Emergency Services
- Emergency evaluation and treatment for infants, children, and adolescents
- Respiratory illnesses and asthma
- Fever, dehydration, and infections
- Injuries, fractures, and lacerations
- Neurologic concerns, including seizures
- Coordination with pediatric specialists when needed
Psychiatric Emergency Services
Psychiatric Emergency Services provide immediate assessment and stabilization for individuals experiencing mental health crises.
Psychiatric Emergency Services Include:
- Crisis evaluation and intervention
- Assessment of suicidal ideation or acute psychiatric distress
- Coordination with inpatient and outpatient behavioral health services
- Safe, supportive environment for stabilization
- Referral to ongoing mental health care and community resources
