The Emergency Department at NYC Health + Hospitals/Metropolitan provides round-the-clock care for adults, children, and individuals experiencing psychiatric emergencies. The department is staffed by emergency medicine physicians, nurses, and specialists trained to respond quickly to serious and life-threatening conditions.

Emergency services are supported by on-site imaging, laboratory services, and specialty consultations and include:

Adult Emergency Services

Emergency evaluation and treatment for adults include the below and more:

  • Abdominal pain and gastrointestinal emergencies

  • Evaluation and treatment of acute illness and injury

  • Respiratory distress and asthma exacerbations

Psychiatric Emergency Services

Psychiatric Emergency Services assessment and stabilization for individuals experiencing mental health crises.

Psychiatric Emergency Services Include:

  • Assessment of suicidal ideation or acute psychiatric distress
  • Coordination with inpatient and outpatient behavioral health services
  • Crisis evaluation and intervention
  • Safe, supportive environment for stabilization
