Mental health is essential to overall well-being, and emotional, behavioral, psychiatric, and substance-related challenges can affect anyone. At NYC Health + Hospitals/Metropolitan, Behavioral and Mental Health Services provide compassionate, accessible care for adults, children, and families, grounded in clinical expertise and community support.
Our outpatient programs support individuals experiencing behavioral, emotional, psychiatric, chemical dependency, and other mental health challenges. The care we provide is focused on understanding, dignity, and connection to the clinical and community resources patients need to heal and thrive.
Metropolitan Mental Health Services Include:
- Anxiety disorders, including social anxiety and public speaking anxiety
- Attention-Deficit Disorder (ADD) and Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) (adult and child)
- Autism spectrum disorders
- Behavioral challenges such as aggression
- Behavioral problems in individuals with intellectual disabilities and dementia
- Depression
- Emotional and mental health concerns during and after pregnancy
- Flight anxiety
- Hoarding
- Mania
- Methadone maintenance treatment
- Neuropsychological services
- Obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD)
- Psychosis
- Sleep disorders, including insomnia
- Substance dependency, including alcohol, marijuana, cocaine, and heroin

Walk-In Evaluation
Located in the Behavioral Health Pavilion at Second Avenue and East 99th Street, the Walk-In Evaluation Unit offers mental health assessments without an appointment. During walk-in visits, the care team evaluates each individual and helps determine the most appropriate treatment plan and level of care.

- Monday – Friday, 8:00 AM – 8:00 PM
Child and Adolescent Services:
- Monday – Thursday, 8:00 AM – 7:00 PM
- Friday, 8:00 AM – 5:00 PM

Individualized Educational Program (IEP) Services
Metropolitan provides evaluation and support services for children who may struggle with attention, learning, emotional regulation, or behavioral challenges.
Services Include:
- Family-based, affordable, and local care
- Specialized support for ADHD, learning disabilities, anxiety, depression, and behavioral health needs
- Supportive clinicians focused on helping children succeed academically and emotionally
- Language support in Spanish, Haitian Creole, Mandarin, Cantonese, and additional languages
