Asthma Care
Children’s Asthma Program
The Children’s Asthma Program at Metropolitan Hospital is a comprehensive, multidisciplinary initiative designed to address high asthma rates among East Harlem’s youngest residents. Our care team includes a pulmonologist and allergy and immunology specialists, health educators, and registered nurses, offering education and support. In addition to treatment, our services include follow-up care, home visits, and intensive case management when needed. This interventional program has resulted in significant reductions in emergency visits and hospitalizations.
Adult Asthma and Primary Care Program
The Adult Asthma and Primary Care Program provides asthma management and primary care in a single outpatient setting for adults with difficult-to-control asthma. The program serves patients with frequent hospitalizations, recurrent emergency visits, or repeated steroid use, and has shown strong outcomes in reducing acute care utilization.
Pulmonary Care
Pulmonary services at Metropolitan Hospital provides comprehensive, patient-focused respiratory care through inpatient and outpatient consultations, dedicated chest clinic services, specialized pulmonary procedures, and expert coverage within the Medical Intensive Care Unit—ensuring continuity of care across every stage of treatment.
