Supporting patients, families, and the hospital community

NYC Health + Hospitals/Metropolitan offers a variety of ways for individuals to give back, support patients and families, and help enhance the overall hospital experience. From hands-on volunteering to sharing feedback or contributing financially, community engagement plays a vital role in advancing the hospital’s mission and fostering a patient-centered environment.

Become a Volunteer

Adults ages 18 and older, help create a warm, welcoming environment and support patients, families, visitors, and staff across the hospital. Opportunities include:

  • Assisting staff with daily operations
  • Enhancing patient comfort through engagement and bedside support
  • Greeting guests and guiding visitors
  • Supporting special programs and hospital events
  • Volunteer Program Requirements

Accepted candidates must complete Human Resources onboarding and Health Clearance requirements before starting.

Community Advisory Board

The Community Advisory Board at Metropolitan Hospital brings together volunteers to give voice to the needs and concerns of the community. Board members raise community awareness of our hospital’s services, provide guidance, share community perspectives, and help inform hospital programs, policies, and outreach efforts. Through collaboration and dialogue, the Community Advisory Board supports Metropolitan Hospital’s commitment to accessible, responsive, and community-centered care.

Metropolitan Hospital Auxiliary

The Metropolitan Hospital Auxiliary is a 501(c)(3), volunteer-led group that supports Metropolitan through fundraising, special projects, and patient-centered initiatives. Their efforts help enhance patient programs, services, and care, strengthening community engagement and advancing the hospital’s mission.

Patient & Family Advisory Council (PFAC)

The Patient & Family Advisory Council at Metropolitan Hospital brings together patients, families, and hospital staff to improve the care experience through open dialogue and collaboration. Members provide feedback and share lived experiences to help shape policies, programs, and services, ensuring that the patient voice remains central to care delivery.
