The Stroke Center provides 24/7 care to adult patients with acute and chronic symptoms of ischemic and/or hemorrhagic stroke. We use acute interventional therapies such as mechanical thrombectomy and intra-arterial thrombolytic therapy, facilitated by use of cerebrovascular imaging.
We also focus on treatment for aneurysms involving the use of intracranial stents, coiling and/or clipping procedures. We provide high quality stroke care by following the AHA/ASA Clinical Practice Guidelines and examining care delivery for every stroke patient. We have been designated by the State of New York as a specialized stroke center and have been the recipient of numerous awards for excellence in stroke care including the American Heart Association’s Get With the Guidelines Gold Plus Quality Achievement Award 12 years in a row.
Since 2018, our hospital has been Joint Commission Certified – Advance Primary Stroke Center.
We also participate in the New York State Coverdell Stroke Quality Improvement and Registry Program, which strives to improve patient outcomes, facility performance and the quality of stroke care. That means, all patients with suspected stroke are evaluated rapidly in the Emergency Department, and appropriate treatment is started immediately. For qualifying patients, clot dissolving therapy (Alteplase or tPA) is administered and/or advanced catheter-based treatment is used to directly remove or dissolve clot within the vessels of the brain. Our team includes neurologists, neurosurgeons, emergency physicians, nurses, physical therapists, and an interventional neuroradiologist. Their collective experience in the treatment of stroke reduces the risk of death and permanent disability.
