Community Advisory Board Chairperson:Charmaine Graham
Charmaine Graham strongly believes that real change starts when community voices are not only heard, but respected and valued in decision-making. She joined the CAB because she wanted to ensure that individuals who are directly impacted by health and social challenges had a seat at the table. For her, this work has always been about collaboration and making sure solutions are created with the community, not just for it, and ensuring that programs and policies truly reflect the needs of the people they aim to serve.
Throughout Charmaine’s career and community involvement, her most meaningful accomplishments have been creating and leading spaces where young people and residents feel empowered to speak their truth. Through the organizations that she has worked, volunteered, or partnered with, she has witnessed the power of individuals stepping into leadership, finding their voice, and knowing that they are part of the solution. That type of empowerment creates a ripple effect that stretches far beyond any single program or initiative.
Charmaine has seen firsthand the CAB’s impact. Memorable moments include conducting wellness surveys in the community along with attending annual town halls, both of which guide their facility’s outreach strategies for health awareness in underserved neighborhoods. By listening to community feedback, the CAB is able to advise on approaches that are more culturally relevant and accessible. Later, she watched families attend events, young people ask important questions, and community members engage in meaningful ways.
Charmain is motivated by the lives behind the work. Every initiative touches someone’s story, someone’s family, and someone’s future. She draws inspiration from the resilience of the community and the dedication of her fellow members. Every breakthrough, whether it is a young person gaining access to resources, a family receiving support, or stigma being broken reminds her that their efforts make a difference.
For Charmaine, the CAB is not just a board, it is a movement of people committed to building healthier, stronger, and more connected communities.
