Women’s Health

Our Women’s Health Service provides comprehensive coordinated care for all women. We are committed to the prevention and treatment of illness. The Women’s Health Services are conveniently located in the Ron Brown Pavilion.

Our Birthing Center consists of beautifully decorated Birthing Suites, Triage Rooms, a Family Lounge, and a Waiting Area that provide a comfortable, family-centered environment to support the mother, newborn, and family. Please view our Birthing Suite brochure (in PDF).

Childbirth classes with instructional information on breastfeeding, nutrition, dental care, midwifery, newborn care, and postpartum care are available to women and their partners. We will provide you with the tools you need to support your family’s needs.

Other specialized health care services include family planning and options counseling, prenatal and postnatal care, and special supportive services for pregnant adolescent and high-risk mothers. We host baby showers and other events for those expectant mothers as well as those mothers who receive postpartum care here.

In 2008, NYC Health + Hospitals/Harlem became an official “Baby Friendly Hospital” as designated by the World Health Organization and UNICEF. Every hospital that attains the Baby-Friendly designation moves the United States closer to meeting important public health goals of increasing the proportion of live births that occur in facilities that provide recommended care for lactating mothers and their babies. NYC Health + Hospitals/Harlem was the first “Baby Friendly Hospital” in NYC and the second one in New York State. Moreover, it is only one of 370 hospitals and birthing centers designated in the United States.

Women’s Health Services are available on Mondays from 9:00 am to 7:00 pm, Tuesday – Friday from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm. Of course, our Birthing Center is open every day, all day.
