For more than 25 years, Jessenia Aponte has dedicated her career to making New York City’s parks stronger, safer, and more accessible for every community. She began in 2000 as a City Seasonal Aide and rose through the ranks, becoming Chief of Staff to the Assistant Commissioner for Urban Park Service in 2006 and today serving as the Bronx Borough Commissioner of NYC Parks.

As Borough Commissioner, Jessenia manages more than 7,000 acres of parkland across the Bronx including 195 playgrounds, 10 pools, Orchard Beach, and four historic houses. In just three years in the role, she has delivered over $400 million in capital investment to the borough’s parks.

Her leadership is defined by experience and impact. She has overseen a diverse workforce, driven major improvements in parks infrastructure, and ensured that every Bronx family has access to quality open space. Jessenia is an ARMY veteran, holds a bachelor’s degree in liberal arts from the College of New Rochelle and a master’s in public administration from Baruch College.
