The Federal Consolidated Omnibus Budget Reconciliation Act of 1985 (COBRA) requires that NYC Health+Hospitals offer employees, and their families the opportunity to continue group health and/or welfare fund coverage in certain instances where the coverage would otherwise terminate.

COBRA generates once the employee’s benefits are no longer active in our system. If the benefits are still active, no COBRA will be generated. COBRA packages are mailed to the address listed in PeopleSoft HR for the employee every 2 weeks for all NYC Health+Hospitals facilities.

*Please keep in mind you have 60 days from the day your coverage was terminated with NYC Health + Hospitals to enroll in COBRA.

Enrollment is done directly with your medical insurance carrier. All questions about a payment schedule, details of coverage, etc. should be addressed directly with your carrier. The maximum period of coverage is 36 months.

Terminated Employment

COBRA becomes available once local HR enters the termination into the employee’s PeopleSoft HR record. COBRA packages are issued by HRSS Benefits via postal mail, however, if you would prefer for your COBRA package to be emailed, please submit your request to COBRA@nychhc.org.

Over Aged Dependent (OAD) Age 26

NYC Health+Hospitals covers your dependent children up until the age of 26. Benefits terminate on the first day of the next month after their birthday. A COBRA package will be issued to your dependent by HRSS Benefits via postal mail.

Leaves of Absence

If you lose your health coverage due to a leave of absence, please request your COBRA package from the Leaves of Absence Department directly at 646‐694‐6590 or LeavesofAbsenceTeam@nychhc.org
