Cogen Energy System
NYC Health + Hospitals/Bellevue Cogeneration Energy System
NYC Health + Hospitals is taking necessary steps to advance sustainability and resiliency goals at Bellevue Hospital by implementing Combined Heating and Power (CHP) Technology.
Bellevue’s new Cogeneration (COGEN) system will consist of two new gas engines rated to generate approximately 4 Megawatts of electricity for every hour of operation and also produces waste heat as a byproduct. This heat can be captured and utilized for beneficial purposes such as space heating and cooling, hot water generation, etc. For Bellevue’s case, it will be used as hot water for space humidification, heating, and hot water production, all needed to support uninterrupted patient care year-round at the hospital campus.
