Collection and Archive Interns Juliana Garcia and Ava Chessum (Spring/Summer 2025 Cohort)

Internships

Mission: To support the next generation of arts in medicine leaders by providing opportunities to learn, explore and advance the evidence base for art and cultural interventions in healthcare models.

Arts in Medicine interns gain hands-on experience with digital archiving, art installation coordination, project management, and data collection while building transferable skills in relationship building, writing, and visual presentations. The program creates space for mentorship with experienced professionals in both healthcare and art communities.

Launched in late 2023, the Arts in Medicine Internship Program offers two distinct tracks: Collection and Archival, a six-month opportunity for graduate students in art history or library science; and the Summer Arts in Medicine, designed for students studying public health, medicine, or medical humanities.

Our interns go on to impact the arts in myriad ways, holding positions at institutions such as the Whitney Museum of American Art, Christie’s, and various university and library organizations across New York City.

Testimonials

I have such deep appreciation for the opportunity to work with Arts in Medicine, which shaped my professional interests and deeply informed my academic work. My graduate research focused on public art in hospitals, inspired by the collection’s mission.
